A robotic hand prosthetic, also called a bionic hand or multi-articulating hand, is a battery-powered hand that moves when you tighten the muscles in your remaining arm. Sensors inside the socket pick up those muscle signals, and small motors open, close and position the fingers.
A simple myoelectric hand only opens and closes. A multi-articulating hand moves each finger on its own, so it can hold a cup, pinch a coin or press keys. That extra control is why many people look at robotic prosthetics when they want the most everyday function from an artificial hand.

A multi-articulating robotic hand reads your muscle signals through sensors in the socket and moves each finger to form the grip you choose. It suits everyday tasks at home and at work, and the grips can be changed as your needs change.
The i-Limb Access is Össur’s entry-level multi-articulating hand. It gives reliable myoelectric grips in a light design and costs less than the premium models, which makes it the usual starting point when people compare i-Limb hand prices.
The i-Limb Ultra adds more grip patterns and extra strength, with a rotating thumb and customisable modes for different activities at work and at home.
The i-Limb Quantum is the most advanced hand in the range. Össur describes it as the first multi-articulating hand you can control with simple gestures: a small movement of the hand switches grip. Grips can also be chosen and changed in the My i-Limb app, so it works as both a gesture control prosthetic hand and a bionic hand with app control.

The i-Digits Access is a partial hand bionic prosthesis for people who have lost one or more fingers but kept the palm. Each missing finger is replaced with a powered robotic finger, sensors pick up your muscle signals, and a custom socket holds the bionic fingers comfortably on your hand.
The i-Digits Quantum is Össur’s most advanced partial hand, with gesture control, a stronger grip and more grip options for people whose work puts heavier demands on the hand.

A multi-articulating hand price usually includes the hand, a custom socket, electrodes, battery and charger, the wrist unit, a protective glove, fitting and your first training sessions. Ask us to list each part in your quote.
The i-Limb Quantum sits at the top of the premium band because of gesture control, app control and the widest choice of grips. The i-Limb Access costs less, and it is where most people start when comparing i-Limb hand prices. Both are imported, so the final figure can move with exchange rates; your price is fixed in writing after assessment.
A bionic arm for above elbow amputation costs more than a below elbow bionic hand because it adds an elbow unit, and sometimes a powered wrist. A robotic arm for amputees at shoulder level costs more again, since the socket and harness are more complex. Body-powered arms are a lower-cost option; see our artificial hand page.
A body-powered hand costs ₹25,000 to ₹80,000, needs no charging and copes well with heavy work. A myoelectric or bionic hand starts at about ₹1,50,000 and needs regular servicing, but it gives a more natural grip without a harness. Most people decide on how they will use the hand each day, not on price alone.
The Ottobock bebionic is another multi-articulating hand, and its price in India falls in the same premium band as the i-Limb. If you are comparing the two, bring your questions to the assessment and we will explain how they differ for your arm and your work.

A robotic hand works by reading the small electrical signals your muscles make when you tighten them. Yes, many children can. A bionic hand for a child is usually a simpler myoelectric hand in a small size, because most multi-articulating hands are made for adult hand sizes. The right age and type vary from child to child, and the socket needs replacing as they grow. See our child prosthetics page.
Many users get a full day of normal use from one charge and charge the hand overnight, much like a phone. Bionic hand battery life is shorter with heavy use, in cold weather and as batteries age. Batteries wear out over the years and can be replaced during servicing.
Most bionic hands are not waterproof. Some models, or a protective glove, give a degree of water resistance against splashes, but you should keep the hand out of water unless the maker says otherwise. We explain your model’s rating and care routine at fitting.
They can be. Several Indian companies now make 3D-printed bionic hands that are lighter and cost less than imported hands, usually with fewer grip options. They suit some below elbow users well. We will tell you honestly whether one suits your arm, your work and your budget.
